Apartments & houses for rent in Okotoks, AB

Okotoks renting FAQ

How much can a landlord charge for a security deposit in Alberta?

No more than one month’s rent. The landlord must keep it in a trust account and pay interest on it, and it can’t be raised later in the tenancy. Verify current rules with Service Alberta before you rely on them.

How often can rent go up in Alberta?

Once every 365 days at most — counted from the start of the tenancy or the last increase. A month-to-month tenancy needs three full months’ written notice. There is no cap on the amount. Verify current rules with Service Alberta before you rely on them.

Is a move-in inspection required?

Yes. Landlord and tenant should complete a written inspection report at move-in and move-out; without one the landlord can’t deduct damage from the deposit. Verify current rules with Service Alberta before you rely on them.

How do I avoid rental scams?

View the home in person (or on a live video call) before paying anything, never send a deposit by wire or gift card, and be wary of rents far below the area average. Report suspicious listings on EazyRental. Verify current rules with Service Alberta before you rely on them.
