Check who is allowed to rent the home

A Verified to rent badge means we reviewed a document for that address. It is not a promise about the unit, the person, or the lease.

Verified to rent

A landlord or property manager uploads a property tax notice, land title, management agreement, or a letter from the owner, and confirms they are allowed to offer that home. An EazyRental admin reads it and either approves the badge or sends it back with a reason.

The badge is tied to the listing or building we reviewed. If the street address, city, postal code, or building changes, the badge comes off until someone submits proof for the new place.

This is different from a site that marks almost every account “verified” after a signup check. Host verification on EazyRental is a separate identity check. Verified to rent is about the right to offer a specific home.

What the badge does not mean

  • We did not inspect the unit or confirm the photos match the home.
  • We did not run a credit, criminal, or licensing check.
  • We do not hold the deposit, draft your lease, or guarantee the tenancy.
  • A property manager’s agreement is not the same thing as a licensed brokerage review.
  • Approval can be wrong if a document was forged. Treat the badge as one check, not the only one.

Red flags in Alberta rentals

  • The rent is far below other homes in the same neighbourhood, and the “landlord” cannot show the unit.
  • They want a deposit, gift card, crypto, or e-transfer before you have seen the home and have a written agreement.
  • The name on the payment request does not match the person on the listing.
  • They refuse in-app messages and push you to a private chat with a payment link.
  • They ask for your SIN, or copies of ID, before any real application.
  • The same photos show up on another site at a different price or address.
  • They pressure you to decide today, or say they are out of the country and a “friend” will collect the keys.

How to protect yourself

Keep the conversation in EazyRental messages. See the home in person or on a live video tour before you pay.

In Alberta, tenancies are covered by the Residential Tenancies Act. Read our tenant rights overview and the scam guide before you send money. If you already paid a scammer, call your bank and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501, and use Report listing on the property page.

Your documents stay private

Proof documents are stored on a locked collection. Only the landlord who uploaded a file and EazyRental admins can open it. Renters never see the file, the file name, or the review notes. Landlord phone numbers and email stay behind in-app messaging, the same as the rest of the site.

Landlords can request a badge from the landlord menu.
